Special Characters & Migrations

Use to be that migrations were a pain when users named files with special characters like &, # or %, among a few. But today’s SharePoint online document libraries support special characters, not all but that is ok because neither does windows files in a folder or fileshare. Both Windows and SharePoint do not accept these characters: ” * : < > ? / \ |

So doing file migrations has become much easier and you don’t have to run a script to rename files before migration. As a matter of fact you really don’t need third party apps to do migrations either because Microsoft has provided Free tools to do migrations…just go the SharePoint admin and click on Migrations for the tools you need. I will admit that the Migration Manager for file shares is a bit slow in scanning and migrating files, but hey it’s free – I’m good with that!
